Jan Moretus mentioned as publisher in colophon on Ee3v, but not on t.p. Device with compasses and the motto "constantia et labore" on Ee4r
Engraved t.p. with, at center, a seated figure teaching, presumably the Veridicus Christianus. The text is divided into 100 chapters, each with an allegorical engraving incorporating letters keyed to the explanatory text and with marginal references. First plate (following [2 daggers]4) is added title leaf for the ill., which were also published separately; see Bibliotheca Belgica. The added title reads: Icones ad Veridicvm Christianvm P. Ioannis David e Societate Iesv (Antverpiae : Apud Philippum Gallaeum, anno M.DCI.)
Each of the 100 numbered plates has a single line of Latin at the head giving the subject, with two-line explanatory verses below the allegorical engraving in Latin (roman letter), Dutch (civilité) and French (italic). The engraver was presumably Theodoor Galle. Decorated woodcut initials, tailpieces
Addendum entitled "Orbita probitatis ad Christi imitationem Veridico Christiano svbserviens," x4r-Bb2v. It has an special engraved t.p. with allegorical depiction of Christ carrying the cross, surrounded by ten artists at easels painting scenes from his life (as well as a few questionable profane subjects). A full-page engraving follows on Aa4r entitled "Qvaerite et invenietes." Four small openings cut in the engraving reveal a volvelle, printed with the numbers from 1 to 100 in random order. The centers of the engraving and the volvelle (through which a string would have passed) are reinforced with small paper roundels printed with the monograms of Christ and Mary respectively. The numbers are keyed to an "Indiculus orbitae" that follows (Bb1r-Bb2r). There a number, having been selected, is provided with a phrase from various Latin authors (listed on Bb2v), and a reference to one of the hundred sections that comprise the main text. It is suggested in Bibliotheca Belgica that this game may have been intended as a pious alternative to such superstitious books as Thuys der fortvnen
Volvelle in Getty copy not attached to engraving, but rather bound in following it. Both the center point of the engraving and of the volvelle are pierced, indicating that they may have been attached at some point
"Concentus musicus versibvs Verdici Christiani coaptatus" ([4] leaves at end, unsigned) contains 3 brief songs for "svperior, tenor, contratenor, bassvs." The notes are printed from woodcut blocks, with the 3 texts in Latin, Dutch and French letterpress respectively. Most copies lack these leaves; see Bibliotheca Belgica

Includes 3 indexes
Includes errata, Ee2v
Bibliotheca Belgica (1964-1970 éd.)

Centered on front pastedown is bookplate of Clements R. Markham. Ownership statement at head of title, partly inked out; it begins: Ex Libris Petri Drouari... Signature at foot of title, partly legible: F.H. Cazablen(?). Penciled inscription on verso of plate facing p. 333: Samson / Timothy. Penciled scribbling on Ee3v
